BEGINNERSStep 1 — Find Your Classes

I'M NEW TO THIS. WHERE DO I START?

Share

Everyone who walks through our door for the first time has the same thought: I don't know what I'm doing. That's not a problem. That's the starting point. The only thing you need to bring is the willingness to show up — we'll handle the rest.

START HERE: THE THREE CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS

Not every class at Yoga House is designed for day one. Some are. These three are the ones we recommend if you're brand new, coming back after a long break, or just not sure where to begin.

SLOW FLOW YOGA

This is the most accessible class on the schedule. Non-heated, unhurried, and built around long holds and steady breath. You'll learn the foundational shapes — warrior, downward dog, pigeon — and how to move between them without rushing. If you've never done yoga before, this is your first class.

MAT PILATES

Low impact doesn't mean low intensity. Mat Pilates is fast-paced, core-focused, and non-heated — which means you can push hard without the added challenge of heat. It's a great entry point if you're coming from a gym background and want something that challenges your stability and control rather than just your cardio.

FUNDAMENTAL MVMT

If you're dealing with old injuries, chronic tightness, or you just feel like your body doesn't move the way it used to — this is your class. FUNDAMENTAL MVMT works through myofascial release, joint mobility, and posture correction. It's not glamorous. It's the work that makes every other class better.

  • — Non-heated
  • — Mobility and pain relief focus
  • — All levels
  • — Taught by: Laurie Orlando
You don't need to be flexible to start yoga. You need to start yoga to become flexible.

WHAT ABOUT THE HEATED CLASSES?

Hot Fit Flow, Hot Power Yoga, and Hot Pilates are all heated to 85–90°. They're excellent classes — but they add a layer of physical demand that can be overwhelming if you're brand new. Our recommendation: do two or three non-heated classes first. Get comfortable with the movements, the pace, and the studio. Then try the heat.

When you're ready, Hot Fit Flow is a great bridge — it combines strength, cardio, and flow in a single heated class, and it's coached with enough structure that you won't feel lost.

BOOK A CONSULT FIRST

If you're not sure which class is right for your body, don't guess. Laurie Orlando offers 1-on-1 consultations where she'll assess your mobility, strength, and any injuries — then tell you exactly which classes to take and in what order. It's the fastest way to build a plan that actually works for you.

YOUR FIRST WEEK

  • — Day 1: Slow Flow Yoga
  • — Day 2: Rest or walk
  • — Day 3: Mat Pilates
  • — Day 4: Rest
  • — Day 5: FUNDAMENTAL MVMT or Slow Flow again

Three classes in your first week is plenty. The goal isn't to do everything at once — it's to find what feels right and build from there.
