Meredith joyfully teaches yoga and practices massage therapy since 1992, and is delighted to offer Hatha yoga classes and workshops, as part of this studio’s new venture.
A very early interest in metaphysics through Edgar Cayce studies, and nutrition, lit a fire for natural wellness, and manual healing therapies as natural adjuncts to training horses.
Later, after traveling to the Hawaiian Islands to study Lomi Lomi massage, and associated esoteric healing techniques, a new career blossomed into what is now Meredith’s Dharma… helping others grow more comfortable in their skin.
She feels extremely blessed to have studied with renowned teachers of different therapeutic modalities, beginning with Dr. Donny Epstein, founder and developer of Network Chiropractic and Somatic Respiratory Integration. His quantum physics approach to healing turned on a switch that fed Meredith’s voracious appetite for more information on healing the spine and nervous system, and improving physical movement and overall wholistic health.
While devotedly following Aadil Pahlkivala, founder of Purna Yoga*, and, Tias Little, founder of Prajna Yoga*, for the past 20 years, a host of masterful yoga teachers and practitioners inspired Meredith on the yoga mat, including, Lillah Schwartz, Patricia Sullivan, Rodney Yee, David Swenson, Sara Powers, Donna Farhi and many others.
Primarily Certified in Purna Yoga*, emphasizing integral completeness of yoga, ancient philosophy applied to modern life, utilizing alignment based Iyengar style asana, plant-based nutrition, Savitri’s Heart Centered Meditation* techniques, and Lifestyle, Meredith has accumulated over 2500 hours of master teacher training.
Her ability to therapeutically assess, and teach people about their injuries, while skillfully and compassionately guiding on the mat, is sweet and profound. She is a teacher of teachers and beginners alike where all levels are welcome.
Preserving classical yoga lineage and mythology, including using Sanskrit terms, telling story, and practicing ancient chants, colors her lively classes.
WHY YOGA:
Yoga covers it all, and I found Yoga as a young teen. First through the philosophy and then to the mat. As a wholistic practice, it covers all aspects of life for every body. It’s like a life map.
HOW I LIVE MY PRACTICE:
Sometimes not well at all (LOL) The fundamentals of yoga include living a simpler life and having a relationship with Nature and compassion for all beings. Choosing happiness over strife, whenever possible
FAVORITE POSE:
SO many to choose from...I love inversions and backbends. The bent knee twist from Aadil’s morning series(TM), has been an (r)evolving favorite, if there were only one (pictured)
For a more difficult pose, eka pada parvritta paschimottanasana
WHERE I AM MOST CHALLENGED BY MY PRACTICE:
Self practice daily is always a challenge. I have gotten a bit lazy this past year and it shows!
THE ONE THING I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT:
The one thing I can’t live without is good health, freedom, community, and love.
THE BOOK I KEEP ON MY BED SIDE TABLE:
At the moment there are three books: one is a comparative book of Scripture, one is a book on future civilizations, and one is a magazine.
HOW I HAVE FUN OFF MY MAT:
Roller Blading, Going to the beach, hanging with friends, cooking and sharing, being in Vermont creating a retreat center.
WHAT I KNOW FOR SURE:
What I know for sure is I know very little for sure. Time is precious, this I am sure
WHAT I AM COMMITTED TO:
Furthering myself as a health practitioner, teacher and a student of life, living life with a passion and purpose, and sharing with others.
WHAT I SHARE IN MY TEACHING:
Alignment based asana and well rounded philosophy and lifestyle, are part of my teachings. We call this Purna, or Complete, Integral. I honor the living and past masters, and their teachings, for yoga’s history is deep, connected to the Indian culture, and much more than modern exercise class. For me this is so important a part of my teaching.
